From October 2019, Prof. Hans Kottkamp is heading the Department of Electrophysiology at Sana Hospitals Düsseldorf, Germany.
From 2006 to 2018, he was the Head of the Department of Electrophysiology at Hirslanden Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland and from 1998 to 2006, Dr. Kottkamp headed the Department of Electrophysiology at the Heart Center Leipzig in Germany.
Prof. Kottkamp´s research focuses on all aspects of catheter ablation of arrhythmias and also on the pathophysiology of arrhythmias, especially of atrial fibrillation. In recent years, he has introduced the concept of ”fibrotic atrial cardiomyopathy” (FACM) as the leading course of atrial fibrosis in atrial fibrillations patients, he has established the substrate modification concept of ”box isolation of fibrotic areas” (BIFA), and he has introduced ”multielectrode contact mapping plus ablation with a single catheter” with the Globe array.
In 2003, Hans Kottkamp was appointed Professor of Medicine of the University of Leipzig. He wrote or co-authored more than 200 publications in international journals and monographs. He won several prices, one of them being the Wunderlich Price 1999 for “Best Clinical Teacher” at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Leipzig, and one other of them being the “Simon Dack Award” of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in 2016.
Dr. Kottkamp serves as a Section Editor for the J Am Coll Cardiol, and he is in the Editorial Board of JACC CEP, and he serves as a Reviewer for all major international Cardiology/Electrophysiology journals.
